Avra Rosen

Avra achieves resolutions for her clients through negotiation or alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, and where necessary, litigation. Avra is certified as a specialist in Family Law by the Law Society of Upper Canada and her areas of speciality include parenting, child and spousal support, complex equalization and valuation issues, including the interaction of family law issues with business and corporate law, shareholders’ remedies and income tax related issues.

Successful Litigator

There are two aspects to Avra’s practice. As a litigator, Avra has extensive trial and appellate experience at all levels of the Ontario Courts including the Superior Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal. She served as a dispute resolution officer for the Superior Court of Justice from 1995 to 2015.

Experienced in Mediation and Arbitration

The second aspect to Avra’s practice is the mediation and arbitration services she provides to spouses and their counsel. Avra completed the Harvard Law School Program of Instruction for Lawyers Mediation Workshop in October 2002 as well as the Law Society of Upper Canada – Family Law Mediation program in 1997. Avra further completed the requisite domestic violence screening necessary for her to conduct mediation/arbitration under the Arbitration Act in 2008, with the requisite recertification every 2 years.

Avra lectures frequently on family law topics for the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Ontario Bar Association, and is the author of numerous family law articles. Avra graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1985 and was called to the Bar in 1987. She is a member of the family law section of the Ontario Bar Association, the Toronto Lawyers Association, Family Mediation Canada (Ontario) and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. Avra was an instructor for the family law section of the Bar Admission Course for many years.

Avra has been involved in many non-profit organizations, acting as chair of various committees and serving as a member of various Boards and Executives. She has been the President of Holy Blossom Temple, the largest Reform Jewish synagogue in Canada, since November 2019.
